Scifi building – (part 1 of 3)

This building kept growing because I kept adding stories to it.

Each level can be removed because I made them stack. This is something I would like to do on future builds. Its a little tough on the foamboard but I painted modpodge underneath each level which seems to be helping.

This is one of those projects I got so focused on detailing I was concerned I would never finish it. My last building is also unfinished because I got too ambitious and it became unwieldy. When I get to working on it, I will post it here.

This building has an interior.. but I taped in windows and doors so it would be easier to finish. There is even a tea-light light on the ceiling of the first floor. So, I will finish the interior eventually.

I like this idea of building in a way that leaves room for expansions. This means I will avoid making window shutters and doors permanent. A small amount of tacky glue or masking tape should do the trick.

I avoided gluing the building to its base. Instead, I glued small nails into the walls, and magnets into the mdf base. This way, the building can be removed from the base, but because I am using magnets on metal, I don’t have to worry about magnet polarity. I also use half as many magnets for the same effect.

My miniature are all magnetized so adding a magnet to a terrain base is probably a bad idea. My plan going forward is that the bottom parts of terrain use metal, nails/washers or roofing sheet metal pieces, while the top piece has the magnet in it.

The railing is made of 1/4″ rabbit fencing. The sign sticks to a magnet inside the wall but that was probably overkill.
The ladder is also magnetized. Probably unnecessary but it made painting easier.

The metal roofing is from a Korean seaweed container.
